SWAYAM is a programme started by the Indian government with the goals of achieving the three guiding principles of education policy: access, equity, and excellence. The goal of this initiative is to make the best teaching and learning tools available to everyone, even the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM aims to close the digital divide for students who, up until now, have not experienced the digital revolution and are unable to participate in the knowledge economy.
Status
Swayam is a platform that makes it possible for anybody, anywhere, at any time to access all of the courses that are taught in classrooms from Class 9 through Post-Graduation. Every course is interactive, created by the top instructors in the nation, and offered to all students without charge. By May 2020, there will be about 90,000 pupils enrolled in this facility.
The courses offered by SWAYAM are divided into four sections: a video lecture, specially created reading material that can be downloaded or printed, tests and quizzes for self-assessment, and an online discussion board for questions and answers. Using cutting-edge pedagogy/technology, audio-video, and multimedia, steps have been taken to enhance the educational experience.
For both students and educators
Under the SWAYAM platform, NIOS and NCERT are running a variety of online courses focused on school instruction. Each course includes text modules, instructional videos, quizzes, and supplementary resources for self-study. These courses are being taken by roughly 1.5 crore students. All of these courses’ registration is currently open. Work is being done to link the SWAYAM platform with DIKSHA in order to coordinate the use of digital resources across the range of secondary and higher education. AICTE has additionally created a programme in cooperation with IIT Bombay.
